Community Survey

Take the 2016 PDC Community Survey

If you are over 18, and live in Pasco, we invite you to take our community survey.

The community survey helps our coalition to know and more information regarding the perceptions in our community and to make better decisions regarding what we should be focusing our prevention efforts on.

We are asking the Pasco Community to participate in this survey. The survey is about concerns related to substance abuse among youth in your community. We will use these surveys to guide our work to develop effective substance abuse prevention programs for your community.

Coalition Poll for Designated Marijuana Funds

We want to get feedback from the community regarding how to spend our Designated Marijuana Funds (DMF) that the coalition will receive for the 2016 year. The DMF can only be spent on specific evidence-based programs listed by the state as options. At our last coalition meeting, we spent a significant amount of the time reviewing the various possible programs that could be implemented. In that group format and as an executive team we have narrowed down our choices for program funding between two options. These are The Incredible Years Parenting Program and Communities In Schools. We want your feedback and selection regarding which of these two programs to allocate this years funding to. This email contains a poll at the bottom. You will be able to click the button that most accurately reflects your opinion. We apologize for the short turnaround time, but we will stop collecting responses as of Thursday 02/18/16 at 12:00 PM. Thank you for your consideration. The following a brief description about the two programs, and specific conversations in regards to implementation as a part of the PDC. Both are great options, and would be very beneficial to our community

Incredible Years

The Incredible Years(r) is a series of interlocking, evidence-based programs for parents, children, and teachers, supported by over 30 years of research. The goal is to prevent and treat young children's behavior problems and promote their social, emotional, and academic competence. The programs are used worldwide in schools and mental health centers, and have been shown to work across cultures and socioeconomic groups. More information can be found at their website.

Safe Harbor Family Support Center has reported that they will be willing to assist us with the implementation of this program. They currently only have one person trained, and we are unsure currently if we will get other coalition members trained in time to implement the program within the time constraints of the grant. Furthermore, it is a intensive and extended parenting program that can go for 18 to 20 sessions. Having such an intensive program can be difficult to demonstrate high rates of completion due to problems related to group attrition. We would likely be able to fund other projects and items along with the Incredible Years.

Communities In Schools

Communities In Schools (CIS) works to coordinate a comprehensive range of services to support all the needs of these students—academic and non-academic—so they come to school ready to learn. They do this through one-to-one services such as academic help, basic needs like food and clothing, physical and mental health care, mentoring, or college and career preparation help individual students overcome barriers to success at school. They also do school-wide offerings like bully prevention assemblies and after-school enrichment meet broad student needs. more information can be found at their website.

Pasco School District is working on bringing CIS to some of their schools. We would be able to fund a staff person for this year, but even with the entirety of the DMF next year, if the grant is given again (this grant is not guaranteed for future years), we would not be able to fund even an entire position next year. Because we would be partnering in bringing in the program, the school district and CIS would want us to plan to continue to allocate our DMF to their program at least for a couple of years while the program gets off the ground.

Select the option that most accurately reflects your opinion regarding funding allocation. We will stop receiving community feedback on Thursday 02/18/16 at 12:00 PM.

Volunteer Need - Join us to Canvass Pasco for Our Community Survey

The last couple of years, we have had a canvassing event for the community survey. It has been a good way to get out into the community, and has been one of our volunteers favorite events. Join us This Saturday (10/24/15) from 1:00 PM to 4:30.

We need all of the volunteers we can get. We will be going out in groups to talk to various community members and complete our community survey. We will send everybody out in teams of two or more. They will all be equipped with information regarding the coalition, community surveys, door hangers. We also have some PDC Swag and will have some snacks.

We will be meeting at the Lakeview Community Center and using their facility as our base for the event.
